Here’s an update on Parkinson’s!
For some, it’s preventable!
It’s my responsibility to share.
I’m shouting from the rooftop!
Those who know me well are aware that I’ve provided voice classes for Dallas Area Parkinson’s for that last 35 years. Each year, DAPS has an annual educational symposium for the community. The symposium was last weekend.
The final speaker, Dr Ray Dorsey, shared work that must become public knowledge.
This is my way of broadcasting that news!
For your use, I’ve inserted images of the handout distributed at the end of the session.
Dr Ray Dorsey and Dr Michael Okun share decades of research in their book, The Parkinsons Plan. Dr. Dorsey spoke. The book is full of research about PD.
Here’s what I heard. It’s important!
Genetics accounts for a small percentage of cases (10 – 15%). For everyone else, exposure to toxins in the environment increase risk of onset of PD. Toxins such as pesticides, herbicides, and industrial solvents are linked to increased risk of onset of Parkinsons.
Toxins
Research has found toxins in the environment are linked to increased risk of Parkinson’s. Here’s a list:
Paraquat is a highly toxic herbicide, outlawed in some countries, but is still in use in America. Paraquat can stay in the soil for two weeks up to several years. It’s in and on food. It leaches into well water in rural areas.
Trichlorethylene (TCE) is a solvent and degreaser in industries such as metal cleaning, dry cleaning, electronics manufacturing, and paint removal. The incidence of PD is high around areas using machinery and around military bases. TCE also leaches into the ground water, soil, and indoor air. In many countries, it is regulated as a hazardous substance. Note right here —> dry cleaning clothing uses hazardous chemicals!
Chlorpyrifos. Another insecticide that targets a wide variety of insects and worms. Exposure can lead to symptoms like headaches, nausea, and has been linked to severe brain damage in children and developing fetuses.
The stats are staggering…

So here’s the great news!
Parkinson’s is preventable for some!
Dr. Dorsey and Dr. Okun are creating a global movement aimed at preventing Parkinson’s Disease. Dr Dorsey recognized that polio was eradicated in a generation. In another generation, great progress was made in reducing AIDS infections and death. Dr. Dorsey told the group, “It’s our turn to eradicate Parkinson’s Disease … in our lifetime.”
By scanning the QR code, you can join a global movement aimed at preventing PD, PD Avengers. A free e-newsletter will come to you to keep you informed. Your stories and experiences are solicited.

What can you do?
- Take note of those toxins and avoid them.
- Wash fruits and vegetables.
- Drink filtered water.
- Secure an air purifier so you are breathing clean air.
- Call on nearby schools with this information to ask if toxic insecticides are being used on playgrounds and on sports fields.
- Ask if the children’s drinking water is filtered.
- Look up Dr. Ray Dorsey on YouTube. Recordings of his talk are there.
Remember….for some, it’s preventable!
I just added this website to my google reader, excellent stuff. Can not get enough!
Thank you…
