A Baby Changes Everything!

A baby DOES change everything!

And a baby can also make you wonder what the heck you are doing!

Often, parents contact me about their concerns for their little ones …  especially when they are under three … especially in terms of language development.

I’ve come across two great resources for new parents.  These books answer lots of questions.  They are featured in this post.

First, Baby 411 by Dr. Ari Brown and Denise Fields.  This book bottles the wisdom of parents and mixes that with solid medical advice from a nationally-known pediatrician.  Dr. Brown is an official spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics, has been featured on NBC Today Show, and is a medical advisor to Parents Magazine.  Includes picking a pediatrician, sleeping through the night, first aid, nutrition and growth, discipline and temperament, common infections, common diseases.  Anyone helping with the day-to-day care of children would find this a great resource.

The Speech Teacher’s Handbook, A Parent’s Guide to Speech and Language by Molly Dresner, SLP.  Molly wrote this guide as she worked with little ones in New York City.  Her short book (55 pages) teaches three principles she uses when seeing children:  Baby Steps, Creating Motivating Moments, Consistency.  She includes functional suggestions, tips of the trade, and basic developmental milestones.  I like it because it empowers parents!

I’ll be giving both of these to the new moms and dads in my life.
